In one study on the importance of olive oil, Dr. Aldo L. Ferrara, assistant professor at the University of Naples, found that daily consumption of 40 g of olive oil helped hypertensive patients reduce the dose of drugs against pressure by 50%. It is believed that this is due to polyphenols which can be found in olive oil.

4. Oregano – this plant contains an ingredient called carvacrol which is very effective against high blood pressure. In experiments on animals, conducted on Eskisehir Osmangazi University in Turkey, it was found that carvacrol lowers heart rate and balances blood pressure, as well as the systolic and diastolic pressure.


5. Hawthorn – in the traditional medicine this plant is used to treat high blood pressure. In one study conducted at Reading University in England, a group of 72 patients with type 2 diabetes were treated with an extract of hawthorn (1200 mg per day), while the other group received medication for high blood pressure. Results found that patients who took hawthorn after 16 weeks showed a reduction of the diastolic blood pressure.
