5 Things You Should Know About The New Fourth Mainland Bridge

Hello me fellow Lagosians, There is going to be a fourth mainland bridge!



YES! And we’re happy about it.

The governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode announced it on his twitter this afternoon

While we look forward to the bridge which will take quite a while, here are a few things you should know about the construction of the new bridge:

#1. It is funded by the Lagos State Government

According to the information from the governor, the bridge isn’t going to be funded by the federal government for the first time, making it a job for the private sector.

#2. Increase in everything led to the need for this bridge

According to the governor, the increase in population and commercial activities has brought about the need for the fourth mainland bridge. It is supposed to decongest traffic upon completion and complement the on-going efforts in meeting up with mega-city status for Lagos State.

#3.  It is going to be 38km long

The governor also said the 38km bridge and expressway will become the longest bridge and expressway anywhere once completed.

#4. It goes along the shoreline of the lagoon estuaries 

The proposed alignment passes through Lekki, Langbasa and Baiyeiku towns along the shoreline of the Lagos Lagoon estuaries, further running through Igbogbo River Basin and crossing the Lagos Lagoon estuaries to Itamaga Area in Ikorodu. It then crosses the Itoikin road and the Ikorodu – Sagamu Road to connect Isawo inward Lagos Ibadan Expressway at Ojodu Berger axis.

#5. It will have 8 interchanges

The new bridge will be made up of 8 interchanges to facilitate effective inter-connectivity between different parts of the State.
