Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were sent a legal notice for auctioning a naval costume. The costume is none other than the outfit that Akshay wore in movie Rustom playing a navy officer. The notice was sent by eleven serving defence officers and eight others to the couple accusing them as “playing with sentiments” of the armed forces.
The notice said “Uniforms resembling those of the armed forces pose a potential threat to national security as the said uniform, insignia and badges could pass for genuine service clothing and can find their way to anti-national elements who can use it to foment trouble.”
Among the notice senders were 7 retired officers and wife of a navy officer. The issue was first raised by an officer on social media where he warned Twinkle Khanna not to place the costume for auction and he can drag her to court for this. Akshay Kumar put the outfit for auctioning in support for an NGO serving for animal rescue and welfare.

As a society do we really think it’s all right to threaten a woman with bodily harm for trying to raise funds for a charity by auctioning a uniform used in a movie,a piece of film memorabilia ? I will not retaliate with violent threats but by taking legal action! #JaiHind https://t.co/OF7e5lTHel

On the whole issue, Akshay Kumar said “We are doing it for a good cause. The costume that I wore in the film is going (to be sold) for a good cause. So, I don’t think we did anything bad. I can’t help if someone feels bad about it. Smita Dikshit who sent the legal notice on behalf of the officers to Akshay and Twinkle said celebrities are not sensitive to the emotions of the Armed forces.”
