50 years ago, Evel Knievel attempted to jump the fountains outside Caesars Palace (see the first photo), but the stunt went horribly wrong. Evel crashed and was left in a coma for a month, suffered a crushed pelvis, shattered femur, and fractures to his hips, wrist, and both ankles. While the jump was a fail, it went on to become one of Knievel’s most popular events and made him more famous than ever. The jump was a fail, but ABC decided to air the jump anyway making him more famous than ever. The other photos of are his other famous jumps like the one over the Grand Canyon, Madison Square Garden, and the Los Angeles Coliseum.
(The last photo is of Robbie Knievel who tried to follow in dad’s footsteps, but it was never the same.)
