I love music and I believe we all do. One of the major reasons why I love the 90s is the songs we listen to then were meaningful and educative with cool Highlife and Afrobeats, but gone are those days. Nowadays most of the popular Nigerian music stars like Davido, Wizkid, Timaya among others, all sing about s**x, women, party and money. All they need is just an electronically-made beats by producers coupled with senseless and provocative lyrics and they have a hit! That’s the kind of music our kids listen to today… Lots of Nigerian artistes who reigned in the 90s however, made more sense in all ramification. here are my top 10 artistes who reigned in the 90s;

We all remember the lovely song “Monika.” We can also remember its opening lines “Monika-Monika, Monika-Monika, if Monika no kill me, I no go die again.

Junior and Pretty were Nigerian artistes and were popular in the 90s. The hit “Monika” was contained in their 1991 album; “Fufu Flavour” which was released under Storm Productions (now Storm Records). Another hit single in the album is “Bolanle.” In 2005, Junior died from injuries that were sustained in a motorcycle accident.

2. Femi Kuti

Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti was born on the 16th of June, 1962 in London. He was raised in Lagos. He is the eldest son of Fela Kuti. His first record was released in 1995 by Tabu/Motown. Hits released by him in the 90s include “Beng Beng Beng” and “Wonder Wonder.”
